Thanks to the HES-code system, which has been in effect since January, people in the “risk” group are prevented from getting on public transportation in Istanbul amid COVID-19 pandemic.
The system works by linking a commuter’s transit card, or istanbulkart, to their unique personal HES-code.
How to link you transit card to the HES code?
Pairing can be done on the “istanbulkart.istanbul” website. For this process, you first need to get the HES code.
THe HES-code can be attained via Hayat Eve Sığar mobile application or a mobile registration.
The commuter then needs to link their istanbulkart with the HES-code by filling in the required fields on the https://kisisellestim.istanbulkart.istanbul website.
