Over 1.4 million tourists have visited Cappadocia since the beginning of the year

Cappadocia, one of the centers of tourism in Turkey, was visited by 1,412,252 local and foreign tourists in January-June this year.

A large number of tourists visit this part of Anatolia every year to admire the unique natural landscape of the region, in particular the Peribajalara valley, ancient monasteries in the rocks, underground cities and other attractions.

In 2019, a record flow of tourists was noted in Cappadocia. In 2020 and 2021, amid the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) pandemic, the years were relatively calm.

Starting from 2022, the flow of tourists to Cappadocia again began to rise to the level of pre-pandemic years.

According to the Department of Culture and Tourism of Nevsehir province, in January, 88,677 tourists visited museums and historical sites in Cappadocia, in February this figure was 83,432, in March – 133,166, in April – 247,459, in May – an increase of 477,757, and in June it reached 381,761.

Most tourists visited the Zelve cave complex in six months – 397,958.

In second place is the Goreme Open Air Museum – 395,771, and in third place is the underground city of Kaymakli – 118,103.

Museums and tourist sites of Cappadocia in January-June 2016 were visited by 672,730, for the same period in 2017 – 908,294, 2018 – 1 million 235 thousand 355, 2019 – 1 million 562 thousand 617 local and foreign tourists.
