Russians and British extended tourist season in Antalya

Russians and British extended tourist season in Antalya

The occupancy rate of hotels in the “tourist capital” of Turkey remains high in early October, which is largely due to the continuing influx of tourists from Russia and the UK.

In the nine months of this year, 7 million 18 thousand 806 tourists, of which 6 million 764 thousand 610 people, were foreigners, had a rest in Antalya.

After the UK removed Turkey from the so-called “red list” for COVID-19, the number of Britons at tourist sites has increased dramatically. In the first 8 days of September alone, 3 789 British tourists preferred to rest in Antalya.

The total number of tourists who arrived in the tourist capital of Turkey in September amounted to 1 million 682 thousand 588 people.

Most of the tourists arriving in Antalya are Russians. This is followed by tourists from Germany and Ukraine.

For 9 months of this year, 2 million 698 thousand 334 Russians arrived in Antalya. This is followed by tourists from Ukraine – 1 million 108 thousand 486 and from Germany – 884 thousand 827 people. There are 6,747 tourists on the British market during the period under review.

In an interview with Anadolu Agency, the head of the Association of Professional Hoteliers of Turkey (POYD) Ulkay Atmaca said that the representatives of the tourism sector had a good season in cooperation between the public and private sectors after 2020.

According to him, the current tourist season in Antalya has lengthened.

“This year we did not have a single closed hotel, almost all of them were open. There are still no closed tourist facilities in Antalya. Hotels are 70 percent full, and favorable weather conditions have played an important role in this. Contrary to the fact that it is October outside, the thermometers rise to 32 degrees. Russia and Great Britain are helping to extend the season. The British not only live in hotels for a long time, but also enjoy golf, which in turn makes a significant contribution to golf tourism,” Atmaca said.

At the same time, the head of POYD also noted the continued recovery at the airport in the region.

Representatives of the tourism sector expect that the occupancy rate will remain at this level for some time, Atmaca said.

The head of POYD recalled that last year Antalya received 3.5 million foreign tourists and this season began with the goal to double this figure.

“The tourist flow rate of 7 million for 9 months is very encouraging. This means that by the end of the year this figure could easily exceed 8 million,” Atmaca stressed.
