Turkey boosts exports to neighboring countries

Turkey’s exports to neighboring Iran, Greece, Iraq, Georgia, Syria and Bulgaria reached $5.6 billion in the first quarter of this year, up 30.4% from the same period in 2021.

According to the Anadolu agency, citing data from the Ministry of Trade and the Exporters’ Union of Turkey, exports in March increased by 19.8% compared to last year to $22.7 billion. This is the highest monthly export figure for March in the entire history of the republic.

In January-March, Turkey’s exports as a whole reached $60.3 billion, which was also a record high for deliveries abroad in the first quarter.

Turkey’s exports to Iran, Greece, Iraq, Georgia, Syria and Bulgaria amounted to $5.6 billion during this period.

In the same period in 2021, exports to these countries amounted to $4.3 billion. Thus, exports to neighboring countries increased by 30.4% in January-March.

In the first quarter, Turkey’s main importer among neighboring countries was Iraq – $2.4 billion. Bulgaria is next with $1 billion, Greece with $790.9 million, Iran with $560.3 million, Georgia with $396.2 million and Syria with $383.3 million.

Neighboring countries became the main importers of Turkish chemical industry

Among the neighboring countries, the products of the Turkish chemical industry were in the greatest demand.

From January to March 2022, Turkey’s chemical industry exports to 6 neighboring countries amounted to $856 million.

Next comes the export of grains, legumes, oilseeds and products – $807.4 million and the export of steel – $525 million.

Turkey borders on land with 8 countries. There is no direct trade between Turkey and Armenia.
