Turkey close to achieving COVID-19 herd immunity

Turkey is confidently moving towards the goal of forming herd immunity against COVID-19.

In June, Turkey’s vaccination program expanded to include new age groups.

According to the Turkish Ministry of Health, on Friday, 570,000 people received a vaccine shot against coronavirus.

Vaccination in the country continues from Jan. 13, 2021.

The first vaccine against COVID-19 was received by Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca and representatives of the Scientific Council on Combating Coronavirus under the Ministry of Health.

On Jan. 14, a campaign to vaccinate medical workers was launched.

This was followed by residents and staff of nursing homes, as well as the population over 85 years old.

In January, the vaccination program included workers in pharmacies and pharmaceutical warehouses, persons over the age of 75 years.

In February, the age limit was lowered to 70 and older.

In addition, members of the Cabinet of Ministers and high-ranking government officials, teachers in rural schools and primary school teachers were vaccinated.

On March 28, the Ministry of Health began to vaccinate groups of the population aged 60 and over.

In April, they began to vaccinate citizens at the age of 55, and in May – heads of rural administrations, persons aged 40 and over, lawyers, family members of medical workers, persons with disabilities.
