Turkey has delivered COVID-19 vaccines to the Somali authorities to support the African country’s fight against the pandemic, the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu said in a statement.
According to the statement, Turkey sent some 290,000 doses of the Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine to Somalia.
Somali authorities were able to detect 26,400 cases of coronavirus in the country with 1348 having died from the disease.
Earlier this month, Turkey delivered 200,000 vaccine doses to Niger.
In the end of 2021, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged to deliver as many as 15 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to African countries, where cases are rapidly rising and vaccination rates are low.
