Turkey has enough COVID-19 vaccines, Erdoğan says

Turkey currently has enough COVID-19 vaccines, and no difficulties are expected in vaccine supplies, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.

In addition to current and incoming supplies of the Chinese Sinovac and the Pflizer-BioNTech shots, talks with Russia “are ongoing currently, hopefully, the Sputnik vaccine is coming, it will come,” Erdoğan told reporters in Istanbul.

On additional supplies of the BioNTech shots, Erdoğan also reaffirmed that German firm BioNtech – which partnered with the U.S.’ Pfizer on the vaccine – had made a promise and that the jabs would be delivered to Turkey.

Turkey launched its aggressive COVID-19 vaccination drive with the Sinovac vaccine, quickly vaccinating millions within weeks.

The country later also approved the Pflizer-BioNTech jab, which was developed by Turkish-German scientists.

Russian-made Sputnik V became the third coronavirus vaccine to be approved by Turkey.

Meanwhile, Turkey eyes Moderna jab to further boost its COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
