Turkey reports 100,000 daily COVID-19 cases for first time

The number of daily COVID-19 cases in Turkey has exceeded 100,000 for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, Health Ministry data showed late Tuesday.

More than 452,000 COVID-19 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours, 102,601 people tested positive, 198 people died, while the number of those who recovered was 87,562.

Among the population aged 18 and over, the rate of those who received the second dose of vaccine was 84.46%, and the rate of those who received the first dose of vaccine was 92.54%.

Some 142,17 million vaccine doses have been administered in Turkey, including booster shots.

Osmaniye, Ordu, Amasya, Muğla, Kırklareli, Çanakkale, Eskişehir, Balıkesir, Zonguldak and Manisa were the 10 provinces with the highest rate of those aged 18 and over who had at least two doses of vaccine.

The provinces with the lowest rate of those who received at least two doses of vaccine were listed as Şanlıurfa, Batman, Siirt, Diyarbakır, Bingöl, Muş, Mardin, Bitlis, Ağrı and Elazığ.

“We have experienced and seen together how the vaccine reduces the devastating effects of COVID-19 in all areas of life. It has shown that if the epidemic passes, the reminder (booster) dose vaccines can never be neglected. Make sure to get new doses. Turkovac with high protection power. Choose with confidence,” Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter.
