The Turkish-made unmanned helicopter Alpin was modernized in accordance with the needs of the country’s army.
The Alpin helicopter developed by TITRA Technology was previously successfully used in the process of extinguishing forest fires in southern Turkey.
New options will allow the helicopter to be used during military operations, as well as to integrate weapons and ammunition into the hull.
The head of TITRA Technology, Selman Donmez, said the company has decided to make some changes to the body structure and aerodynamics of the helicopter to prepare it for military operations.
“We’ve improved the hull design to make it look larger and more suitable for integrating weapons and ammunition. The prototype of the new helicopter body was presented at the 15th IDEF 2021 defense industry exhibition, ”he said.
According to Donmez, negotiations on the use of Alpin for military purposes have been held for a long time, and within the framework of the IDEF 2021 exhibition, an agreement was reached on this issue with deliveries.
“The Alpin unmanned helicopter has a special place in the unmanned systems sector. In the minds of many, the helicopter was not associated with “drones” or fixed-wing drones. “After the demonstration at the exhibition, everything fell into place,” the head of the company said.
Donmez that in the near future the helicopter will operate for logistic purposes, for reconnaissance and filming.
In addition, negotiations are ongoing with various enterprises in the defense industry, especially on the integration of ammunition and weapons.
The new building will provide tremendous benefits in this regard, he said.
Donmez, that the General Directorate of Forestry of Turkey contacted the company in the last months of 2020, immediately after the helicopter was presented.
The FDA felt that Alpin would do an excellent job with the firefighting reporting, he said.
“Later we conducted a joint operation in which the helicopter was used for monitoring. We were preparing to fly over Canakkale, but, unfortunately, just at that time a large fire broke out in the Manavgat region of Antalya province.
“Sent Alpin to the area. The helicopter monitored the foci of the spread of the fire. This was the first such experience for the company, ”added Donmez.
