Istanbul to replace Europe for Russian tourists amid closed borders

Turkish metropolis Istanbul will replace the closed European travel destinations for Russian tourists in the fall season, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) said.

The number of Russian tourists visiting Istanbul in the first 9 months of 2021 amounted to more than 381,000 people.

Thus, the number managed to get closer to the level of 2018.

“In the first 8 months of this year, compared to the same period last year, the number of Russian tourists in Istanbul increased by 78.2%. Istanbul will replace closed Europe for Russians in the fall season, ” the statement said.

The head of ATOR, Maya Lomidze, said last month that Turkey had become the most popular tourist destination for Russians in 2021.
