More hospitals administering Turkovac vaccine in Turkey

In Turkey, a growing number of hospitals are using the domestically produced Turkovac vaccine against COVID-19.

Only in the capital Ankara, the number of medical facilities where the local vaccine is used has reached five.

The use of the domestic vaccine against coronavirus in the country’s city hospitals has been ongoing since Dec. 30, 2021.

Earlier in Ankara Turkovac was used only in the City Hospital, but starting from Feb. 7, the domestic vaccine is being administered to those who wish at the Atatürk Sanatoryum Training and Research Hospital, Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, Dishkapi Yildirim Beyazit Training and Research Hospital and the Gulhane Training and Research Hospital.

Work on the development of the vaccine was carried out with the support of the Health Institutes Authority under the Turkish Ministry of Health and the Scientific and Technical Research Council (TÜBİTAK).

The Turkish Ministry of Health previously authorized the emergency use of a locally developed inactivated vaccine.

Thus, Turkey became the 9th country producing a domestic coronavirus vaccine in the world.
