Turkey to receive Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine in early May

Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V is expected to be delivered to Turkey in early May.

This is one of the vaccines developed on the basis of a viral vector. The vaccine development is supported by the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

Researchers at the Gamaleya Center, based on the results of studies on over 20,000 people, reported a vaccination efficacy of 91.6 percent. The second dose of the vaccine is given 21 days after the first.

Thus, Sputnik V became the third most effective vaccine in the world after Pfizer and Moderna.

Sputnik V has been approved across 60 countries around the world, with a total population of 3 billion.

In Russia, over 12 million people received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, and about 8 million people completed vaccination.

The Direct Investment Fund of Russia and the Turkish company Viscoran İlaç signed an agreement on April 26 to produce the Sputnik V vaccine in Turkey.

The head of the Turkish Ministry of Health, Fahrettin Koca, said that two types of vaccines are already being used in Turkey, the third will be “Sputnik V”.

“Turkey intends to purchase 50 million doses of Sputnik V in the next six months. The first deliveries are in May. It is also planned to transfer technologies for the production of this vaccine in Turkey, ”the head of the Ministry of Health said.
