Türkiye residents increasing spending on domestic holidays

The volume of spending by Turkish citizens on domestic holidays in January-March this year increased by 100.4 percent compared to the same period in 2021, amounting to 12.18 billion Turkish liras, according to the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat).

Most expenses (94.5 percent or 11.52 billion Turkish liras) were spent on personal needs.

665.63 million liras (5.5 percent) were spent on tour packages purchased by Turks during the reporting period.

The largest share of the costs was transport expenses (33.7 percent). This is followed by spending on food and drink (29.8 percent) and accommodation (11.1 percent).

According to the agency, 7.34 million people traveled in Türkiye in January-March this year.

In the first quarter of 2022, trips to friends and relatives became the leading domestic tourism segment with 65.1 percent.

In second place in this ranking is “travel, entertainment, recreation” (18.5 percent). Closes the top three medical tourism (6.3 percent).
