Volume of cargo transshipment growing in Türkiye ports

The volume of cargo transshipment through the seaports of Türkiye in the first half of 2022 increased by 6.6 percent compared to January-June last year and reached 273.5 million tons.

This was announced by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Türkiye Adil Karaismayoglu.

According to the head of the Ministry of Transport, in the six months of 2022, a total of 6.39 million TEU (a unit of cargo measurement equal to the volume of one 20-foot container) containers were shipped through the seaports of Türkiye.

Karaismayoglu said that the northwestern province of Kocaeli remains the leader in terms of transshipment of sea cargo.

The largest volume of cargo exports through seaports was carried out to the US, Italy and Spain. The leader in the import of goods through the ports of Türkiye is Russia.

Thanks to investments in port infrastructure, Türkiye is turning into one of the centers of world maritime trade, the minister stressed.
